University of Wollongong

  • Dr Shane Dawson is the Academic Leader: Educational Development at the Graduate School of Medicine, UOW. Dr Dawson’s research has focussed on the application of student online activity data for evaluating teaching performance. His research has demonstrated the use of IT driven data to inform practitioners and managers of lead indicators of student sense of community and course satisfaction. This submission extends Shane’s prior work in this area.
  • Associate Professor Lori Lockyer is the Associate Dean, Research and Associate Professor, ICTs in Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Wollongong. Lori's research interests focus on the use of information and communication technologies to support learning in professional education, and health education and heath service initiatives. She has been recognised with awards from ascilite and NSWIER for her research in online learning in higher education. Recently Lori was responsible for the design of the teaching and learning technologies for UOW's newly established Graduate School of Medicine and with Martin Olmos received international recognition for the online learning environment by being awarded IMS Global Learning Consortium's Platinum Learning Impact Award 2008.

University of British Columbia

  • Dr Leah Macfadyen
  • Associate Professor Gary Poole is the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Academic Growth at UBC. He has a strong record of scholarship and has won a 3M Teaching Fellowship (Canadian national teaching award), an Excellence in Teaching award from Simon Fraser University, and a Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for contributions to Higher Education. Gary is closely associated with the International Society for Teaching and Learning as a past president and founding member.
  • Dr Michelle Lamberson is responsible for the overall coordination and institutional leadership related to e-learning and, more recently, distance education initiatives at The University of British Columbia, Canada. She has more than ten years experience with using and implementing learning technologies in support of learning and teaching, including 3 years in the learning management industry.

Murdoch University

  • Associate Professor Rob Phillips has worked with educational technology since 1992. He combines thorough pedagogical knowledge with strong information technology skills. Rob was responsible for the implementation of the WebCT Learning Management System at Murdoch and he now plays a role in educational policy development. Rob has extensive experience with large learning and teaching development projects, including 5 ALTC projects as team member, grant writer, evaluator of reference group member. He has broad research interests, including the mining of LMS usage log data.

  • Professor Phil Long
  • Ms Aneesha Bakharia

RMIT University

  • Professor Phil Poronnik is an established and active researcher in the biomedical sciences with funding from both the ARC and NHMRC. In 2004 he was awarded the UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award. In 2007 he received a UQ Commendation for Excellence in Teaching. He co-founded the SBMS Education Research Unit with Dr Roger Moni in 2005 and is dedicated to an evidence based approach to the scholarship of teaching and learning and supporting pedagogical change at the institutional level. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Carrick Institute. The focus of Phil’s current activities is the embedding of communication and quantitative literacies in the undergraduate BSc programme and how creative pedagogies can increase student engagement and learning in science education. He was the co-chair of the Joint Management Committee for the implementation of the new BSc in 2008 at the University of Queensland. Phil is also the coordinator of the first year human biology course that services 1300 students per year. He has over 86 peer reviewed publications.
