Project Team

  • Dr Shane Dawson (Project Leader – University of British Columbia, Canada) Shane is the Director of Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology. His research centres on the application of quantitative data derived from student online activity to inform teaching and learning practice. Shane's research has demonstrated the use of student online interaction and network data to provide lead indicators of learning support, sense of community, course satisfaction, learning dispositions and creative capacity.
  • Professor Lori Lockyer (Project Leader – University of Wollongong) Lori's research focuses on how technology can support teaching and learning in schools, higher education, professional education, and health education. She has been recognised with awards from the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Australian Learning & Teaching Council, the Australian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education, and the NSW Institute for Educational Research for her research, design and teaching practice in online learning in higher education.
  • Ms Aneesha Bakharia (Lead Developer – University of Queensland) Aneesha is a PhD candidate at Queensland University of Technology where she researches the use of algorithms (Non-negative Matrix Factorisation and Latent Dirichlet Allocation) to support qualitative content analysis. Aneesha also has a strong research interest in learning analytics. She has qualifications in Microelectronic engineering, digital design and music production. Aneesha has been employed as an educational technology researcher and has worked within the higher education and vocational education sectors. Aneesha is technical author and has authored books on Ruby on Rails, C#, ASP.NET and Java Server Pages.
  • Ms Elizabeth Heathcote (Project Manager – University of British Columbia, Canada) Liz has worked within education and technology for the last 18 years, a path that started as a language teacher in a school that mandated laptops for all students. Liz has held various positions in Australia, France, Singapore and Canada as a teacher, instructional/ curriculum designer, manager of educational software development, technology manager and consultant within various universities and training organizations. Liz has managed various organizational change projects – from repositioning a university's international marketing office to wide-scale curriculum renewal across a university of over 30,000 students. She has published in areas such as educational technology and change management. Liz's interests include change management, educational technology, learning communities and learning activity design.
