WORKSHOPS
The CLASS Leadership Professional Development Workshop Program is a leadership training and professional development initiative that aims to build the skill set of subject co-ordinators to enhance the professional development of sessional staff in their teaching teams.
An initial one-day workshop was piloted at the University of Technology Sydney, on Friday June 18, 2010 with 10 subject co-ordinators from each the four initial partner institutions attending. The Workshop program initiated a process of professional development that included follow-up activities such as institutional meetings, the facilitation of small action learning projects, and trialling support resources.
The pilot Leadership Professional Development Workshop Program was evaluated by the participants and modified as necessary before being implemented again in 2011. The Workshop Agenda focused on exploring subject coordinators' leadership and management of sessional teaching teams and used the iCVF Framework as a means of examining the capabilities and strategies for effective leadership.
Congratulations! An excellent workshop. Well organised, high engagement levels of participants and thought provoking activities and discussion. (June 18, 2010 Workshop Participant)
The workshop was very effective in highlighting the role of course coordinator as leaders and in recognising the important contribution of sessional staff. (January 27, 2011 Workshop Participant)
Throughout Semester One, 2011 the modified Workshop Program was cascaded to a further twenty-five institutions across Australia through five state-based workshops (Click here for details of the state-based workshops). Two workshops – a subject coordinator’s workshop and a facilitator's workshop – were facilitated. The subject coordinator day 1 workshop closely examined the iCVF framework and explored leadership roles and capabilities of subject coordinators in regard to this framework. Workshop attendees also identified, shared and discussed leadership practices that promote effective leadership and management of sessional teaching teams. The facilitator’s day 2 workshop further examined the iCVF and its relevance for academic development and focused on strategies for facilitators to further implement and cascade the CLASS program in their institution.
